TC-Helicon Introduces VoiceLive Play GTX for Singing Guitarists
Pristine vocal and guitar effects join forces in one compact, turbo-charged unit – TC-Helicon’s VoiceLive Play GTX takes the singing guitarist’s performance to the next level!
(Anaheim, Los Angeles, 19 January 2012) VoiceLive Play GTX is the world’s first multi-effects unit dedicated to rocking the world of the singing guitarist. Pro-level TC-Helicon effects and state-of-the-art harmony processing is just half the story. Play GTX is also packed with top-of-the-line guitar effects from TC Electronic. Quite simply, singing guitarists will feel like they have a dedicated vocal producer and an experienced guitar tech sitting inside the box.
For more than a decade, TC-Helicon has lived to serve the needs of singers, giving vocalists everywhere the opportunity to express themselves in new and amazing ways. Likewise, TC-Helicon’s sister company, TC Electronic, has provided the guitar world with first-class effects solutions for decades, with legendary units like Stereo Chorus Flanger, TC 2290 Digital Delay and G-System.
Sing. Play. Rock.
Rocking out with VoiceLive Play GTX has never been easier. More than 200 amazing presets, covering both vocal and guitar effects, can be browsed either by genre or effect type. Many of the factory presets are inspired by popular songs and artists, making users feel at home instantly – with more presets to download every month online. Every preset can be taken ‘over the top’ via the HIT button, which will add vocal effects on top of the base sound of each preset – perfect for making choruses stand out instantly! Also, selected presets can be stored as Favorites for super fast and easy access.
Electric or Acoustic Guitar? It’s All Covered!
The guitar effects run the gamut from pristine acoustic to raucous, distorted guitar tones and lots in between. TC Electronic reverbs, delays, modulation as well as distortion effects, putting the guitar in the zone for full vocal, guitar and looping production all in one footpedal. The vocal harmonies are also guided by the guitar for the ultimate freedom of expression.
Practicing Made Fun
Practice makes perfect, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t also be a lot of fun. VoiceLive Play GTX has a dedicated Practice mode that analyzes singing performance in real-time. Detailed pitch statistics will help spot strengths as well as point out areas that need more attention.
Singing and playing along with favorite songs is a fun and efficient way to practice. VoiceLive Play GTX accepts input from MP3 players and computers via an AUX In connector or USB. To make things even more fun, VoiceLive Play GTX has a Vocal Cancel feature that reduces the lead vocal level in a recording, so users can put themselves directly in their favorite artist’s shoes. Finally, VoiceLive Play GTX can even listen to the recording and generate harmonies based on the chord progressions in the track.
Guitar and Vocal Looping
VoiceLive Play GTX is the perfect tool for exploring the exciting world of combined voice and guitar looping. Loops can be created easily and on the spot, with or without effects and while changing presets. Add a TC-Helicon MP-75 microphone and the integrated Mic Control button can be used for full looping remote control.
Versatile Room Mics – A Good Set of Ears
VoiceLive Play GTX has two built in RoomSense microphones, which can be used in several ways. For example, they can add a touch of room ambience to a headphone or in-ear monitor mix. The RoomSense mics can also listen to music nearby, to automatically determine which key to set for Harmony and HardTune effects. Alternatively, they can even be used for recording to a computer via USB.
In short, singing guitarists everywhere should get ready to fall in love with their voices, while rocking out on their guitars!

How do you turn off vocals from songs on mp3s
Hi Lone,
In the setup menu there’s an option called Vocal Cancel. It will try to remove the vocals from a stereo audio input (aux in). Its success depends on the original mix of the song, so your results will vary from tune to tune.
How do you turn on phantom power?
Hi Carmen,
In the Setup Menu Input screen you’d choose Condenser if you need Phantom Power.
Nice! Spent 4 hours today just looking thru a little. I don´t quite get are the effects stereo (?) and the base sound straight from microphone only came from left. Over all seems awesome and sure will be a lot of fun testing and using in stage aswell. I took a risk of using it on stage the same day i bought it… went all fine 8)
Cheers,
~ Aleksi / Plans
I’m performing with the GTX and find it amazing! the 15 sec loop is fine for performing and I’m yet to find the “30 second mono button”. It would be nice to have a chart of how each preset is configured ie: which effects are employed on each preset. and it would also be good to hear some customised samples from other users. These things probably already exist, however I’m still in the bonding(honeymoon) phase of my relationship with the VLP gtx. Thanks for providing such a simple and effective tool.
Hi Gibbo,
To get 30 secs of looping, you need to turn off Undo in the Loop menu in Setup. There may be a typo about mono in the manual. I’ll check it out. Glad to know you’re having a great time with the unit!
I agree Adrian Craig. Its looper is useless for a gigging musician and its just a bunch of presets. Needs more loop time. AT LEAST 60 SECS and a bypass switch. Harmonies and doubles have to be on separate presets and u also have to jump a hoop to switch presets while looping then, try using hit switch and trying to end loop for example. impossible. Seems like that would have came before the mountain of great studio effects they put in this thing that are useless on stage. Unless I was doing a comedy act. Yes I own it and yes I am returning it. Big disappointment.
Hi Shane,
You might find that breaking out the loop controls onto a Switch3 would solve some of your control requests. You’d have direct access to the 3 looping buttons while still maintaining the original Up/Dn and Hit buttons on the box.
Hola: seria posible me enseñaran que significa Hardtune? D-esse ? umod? de antemano gracias y los felicito por sus productos, son los mejores que conosco de todo corazon, atte. adolfo ocampo de cuernavaca morelos – mexico.
Starting to extend the feature list, but built in drum machine would be amazing..
Gonna second Jack’s comment. Almost perfect for me- just need more or expandable loop time!
Hi, are there phantom power in VoiceLive Play GTX?
Thanks
Hiya,
Yep, both the Play and Play GTX support Phantom (+48) power.
As a long term fan, user and pro user, purchaser and live performer using TC products, I can’t believe that you made such expensive toys.
Really.
Look at “old” Harmony G-XT. It has MORE switches, MORE programs inside program and it’s MORE usefull onstage.
GTX is like toy for preset-clickers who wants only have more presets, no matter that the number means nothing onstage.
There’s no A/B/Clean switches, what makes simple things like fast changing harmonies during singing – impossible!
Yup, you gave us “HIT” switch – most of “screaming wanna-be indie stars” will think, that this switch magically make them hitmakers….
TC – sorry – it’s a shame. Instead of more powerfull successor of G-XT you’ve just made a TOY.
Please – convince me to don’t think about GTX like about a toy – I want to make deep rewiev for 3 Polish bigest websites and magazines for musicians, but… What should I write? “LCD is nice, you can swith between presets, effects are nice…” end of review?
your faithful endorcer….
don’t screw it.
Quick question: Have you tried one yet? Just curious if your impressions are from hands on use or not. We always love to hear feedback from customers who are using the stuff out in the field! It helps us make improvements to all of our products as we move forward.
Hi, as a long term fan, purchaser and live performer using tc helicon products, i can’t believe that the almost perfect product for me ( voicelive play gtx ) only has 15 seconds of loop time ( forget the 30 seconds at the cost of undo, when you are playing live!) I and a lot of my fellow professionals need at least 60 seconds to accompany a verse with guitar solo!….amazing.
Hi Jack,
The loop time in VoiceLive Play and Play GTX is the same as in VoiceLive 2 and Touch. We’ve heard lots of feedback about how people would like to manage loops and we’re looking at some new ways to do things in new products, but loop length isn’t something we’ve heard being too short. Thanks for the input!
