Ben ‘The Verse’ Mount – PendulumMay 5, 2010 | 10:20:29 AMPendulum have stormed onto the Dance Music scene with a unique blend of supercharged beats underpinning memorable songs and delivered with megawatts of power. MC Ben ‘The Verse’ Mount tells us how he is using TC-Helicon’s VoiceLive 2 in his live set-up… There’s aren’t that many bands that deliver such a unique sound and with so much power as Australian Electronic Rockers Pendulum. With three albums under their belts their sound has moved through blistering Drum n Bass to harder Rock with a catchy edge that has bought them a huge amount of mainstream success. They kicked things off at a blistering pace back in 2003 with the Dance anthem Vault and a series of similarly powerful tracks got them signed to Breakbeat Kaos resulting in a move to the UK and a debut album, Hold Your Colour, that has sold over 300,000 copies. The band then followed this up with In Silico, which has sold even more copies, and they supported this with major festival appearances like Radio 1’s Big Day Out (headlining with Madonna), Glastonbury, the Isle Of White Festival and T In The Park. They also completed a hugely successful tour in the States. With their latest album, Immersion, soon out the band look set to conquer the world… again. And their sound is still just as hard to categorize and it is a sound made all the more unique by having MC Ben Mount regularly rapping over the top of it. With an album imminent we certainly appreciate Ben taking time out to tell us about his TC-Helicon VoiceLive 2… “I chose VoiceLive 2,” he states, “because it ticked all the boxes as far as what I was looking for in an on stage vocal effects unit. My friends and colleagues all recommended the TC-Helicon brand so I got the first version, VoiceLive 1, and it soon became apparent that the VoiceLive 2 was a great improvement on the already very decent device.” So how is Ben using VoiceLive 2? “I’m using it for various DJ gigs as a vocal effects unit,” he says. “I like the way you can add effects easily on the fly with the assignable foot triggers. I use the device a lot for adding delays and reverb to certain areas of my vocals.” And Ben certainly likes the added options that the unit has opened up for him… “Well, I have never really used an effects unit of this kind on stage before,” he says, “but the improvement for me is that you have the control over your effects rather than having to rely on the front of house engineer to control them for you. Also the sound on VoiceLive 2 is very clean.” With Pendulum just about to start supporting their third album with a string of live dates and DJ sets, it looks like Ben’s VoiceLive 2 will be kept busy for the foreseeable future… “I plan to integrate the unit into the Pendulum live show,” he says. “I’m going to be using automation from one of the show systems to change presets in the unit as the show progresses. Rob and Gareth from the band already use the rack mounted version of this TC-Helicon product and it has worked without a hitch for 168 shows.” That’s high praise indeed… Pendulum’s latest album Immersion is out soon and the band are touring the UK in May with more dates around the world likely for later in the year. They also have a string of DJ sets planned for February onwards. More details can be found here. http://www.pendulum.com/gigs.htm |
